France's leftist New Popular Front achieved a surprising victory in the parliamentary elections, securing 188 seats in the 577-member National Assembly. This placed them ahead of President Macron's Ensemble coalition, which won 161 seats, and the far-right National Rally, which gained 142 seats. Despite their success, the New Popular Front fell short of the 289 seats needed for an absolute majority. The coalition, led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, now faces the challenge of governing and implementing its progressive agenda amidst political uncertainty​.

This was still viewed as a major triumph by the public, as the main goal was to defeat the far-right party, which had never been this close to majority. As soon as the results dropped, a large crowd of supporters gathered at the Place de la République in Paris to celebrate their win.
